Four Hundred
Years of Experience |
Modern singani is a clear 80 proof spirit made exclusively from Muscatel
of Alexandria grapes.
The history of singani begins during the Spanish Conquest when Augustinian
missionaries pioneered Bolivian viticulture between 1550-1570. Bolivian
wine making began with religious purposes in Mizque Cochabamba, one of the
few archiepiscopal seats of the new world. In later years of the sixteenth
century, other production areas located in the south valleys of Potosí
were developed. Potosí was a focal point for the trade of wines made by
missionaries and Spaniards. Over time, the altitude, climate, and other
distinctive traits of Potosí lead to the development and production of
grape spirits with a higher alcoholic content. These spirits were
perfected over the years and took on the name of a nearby town called
Singani. This makes singani a genuine Bolivian drink, unlike any other
found in the world. Modern Singani is a clear 80 proof spirit made
exclusively from Muscatel of Alexandria grapes.

Our Vineyards - Central Valley of Tarija
Altitude Makes the Difference |
 |
There is nothing quite like a Bolivian Singani from CASA REAL. Tarija's Central Valley is unique among the worlds wine growing
regions. While it has similar to those of other outstanding wine-making
regions, Bolivia, situated in the heart of the Andes Mountain range, is the worlds second highest country after Nepal, making Bolivian vineyards the highest in the
world.

But altitude isn't just a catchy gimmick, it makes a real difference in our
products. At 1700-2800 meters (5575 9185 ft.) above sea level, grapes receive more intense ultraviolet sun rays than in other grape growing
regions. This causes the development of a greater aromatic richness in the
fruit, and leads to a distinctive flavor and quality in Bolivian wines and singanis.
